EBS Prof. Tobias Gutmann was honored with the Best Paper Award at the 8th World Open Innovation Conference (WOIC) 2021.

The conference, themed “Building Successful Ecosystems Through Open Innovation”, was held online via the Gather.Town platform.
Together with his co-authors Christopher Chochoiek and Henry Chesbrough, Prof. Gutmann presented the paper titled “Extending Open Innovation: Tracing Knowledge Flows from Corporate Venture Capital”. This research delves into the role of Corporate Venture Capital (CVC) within the framework of Open Innovation (OI). The authors introduced an innovative framework that traces knowledge flows from CVC investments, outlining how these flows can be leveraged to overcome organizational barriers and enhance innovation performance. The study particularly highlights new types of knowledge flows – “Outside-Out” flows, which help shape an ecosystem for corporate innovators, and “Inside-In” flows, which break down internal silos to achieve meaningful innovation impact.
