Hessian Minister of the Interior Roman Poseck gives keynote speech at EBS Law School
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law, Hesse's Minister of the Interior, Roman Poseck, visited EBS Law School in Wiesbaden.
The theme of his speech was 'TOMORROW. 75 years of the Basic Law - challenging times in a good constitution'. He covered the history of the origins of the Basic Law as well as current challenges such as the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, the rise of right-wing extremism, anti-Semitism and Islamism. He also emphasised the importance of a united Europe in the context of an appeal for the European elections on 9 June 2014.
The Minister said: "Most people in our country still stand by the values of our Basic Law. Democrats are clearly in the majority. A system that puts people's freedom at its heart also thrives on participation. Many people make use of this freedom by volunteering in clubs, fire brigades, aid organisations, churches, politics and many other areas. They are role models in the sense of our Basic Law. Volunteers not only contribute to the functioning of our community and to a society worth living in, they are also a strong foundation of our free and democratic basic order. This commitment must be recognised and maintained. Democracy needs civic engagement and committed democrats. It depends on each and every one of us.”
The Dean of EBS Law School, Prof Dr Michael Nietsch, moderated Prof Poseck's visit. Numerous students and lecturers of EBS Law School listened to the Minister of the Interior and his lecture.
